MK Retreat

Last weekend I went to Leavenworth for the first time for our annual Mary Kay retreat - but more on that later. Let's catch up on other happenings of the Rose household:

First - my books! I finished "Why Gender Matters" and loved it - and I am 75% done with "Girls on the Edge" which I found particularly interesting as a girl who went through a lot of what he pointed out in the book. One of the factors affecting girls today is obsessions: in high school when I wasn't the basketball star anymore (cue basketball coach telling me I needed to lose 25 pounds before I could start - TRUE story), I definitely felt lost. But thankfully I had parents who taught me that I was more than an athlete. He talked about the way girls use social media, and I see this translate to adulthood even in myself. We tend to write things on our blogs and on our facebook and instagram what we think people will want to read rather than what we're genuinely thinking or feeling. I've done that in my head many times in writing my blog: things like "I won't include that, nobody cares" - etc. But who cares what other people think? I'm going to try to care less what other people think of my writing - and what's funny about that is, isn't that all in our heads in the first place? The idea that someone might be judging my writing may in fact, never be true, but just a story in my head. I know, this is deep, philosophical stuff up in here.

Last Monday I decided to delete my facebook app off my phone. I was sick of constantly scrolling throughout the day in any down time: it was like I couldn't have a down moment without looking at it. I was very aware of it, but couldn't seem to just have a moment where I was just sitting - and it was okay. So I decided to just get rid of it.  I'll tell you - I don't miss it! Yeah, it might make posting pictures from my phone more of a pain, but I am loving the freedom from the negativity and comparison on facebook - especially this election season!

Poor baby Emmett has come down with a severe case of eczema. People were telling me it was heat rash and it would just go away, but then I used my BRAIN and determined it is not hot enough outside or in my house to be heat rash. I got a professional diagnosis, and we are working on a solution.

This picture is to document his first time rolling from back to belly! Interestingly enough, he rolled back to belly before belly to back. He is rolling like crazy now :)
 Morning walks

trying to feed baby with a dog going nuts-o in the back...yes, he climbed on the chair and was attempting to climb over the couch! Chase come take our dog away!

More morning walks :)
Saturday morning bright and early Justin took my to a carpool location to get to Leavenworth for my MK Retreat. Every quarter we tend to have a big event, and this is the one for fall. It was an educational, inspiring event and I will just say this: I absolutely love the people I work with. I love being a mom and staying home and enjoying that lifestyle: and I also love having a part-time business where I associate with a lot of positive-thinking women who uplift me. It's a unique culture and I'm grateful I have a way to make extra income for our family while enjoying this new stage of motherhood. Last month I celebrated 3 years with MK! Crazy.
Being away for 36 hours meant a lot of pumping! Thankfully I had a mini-fridge in my "luxury cabin" to save all of it.
Leavenworth looks straight out of Switzerland - I didn't take nearly as many pictures as I should
My new friend Debbie and our chocolates
We learned how to earn a diamond ring for seminar - isn't that crazy? Those are real diamonds next to my fake one ;) That training came from someone who's earned SEVEN diamond rings. Whaaat?
I got to sleep in the loft! It was so cool
The name for our future national area is the Hero Area - hence the hero themed photobooth!
My scarf is covering my awesome #unstoppable t-shirt I won which gave me and the other qualifiers special privileges all weekend - so fun! And I got these slammin pair of BKE's this week - can you believe some idiot at the post office yesterday commented on how cute Emmett was, then said "Looks like you're expecting your second?" ... #whatareyousmoking

The fruit of all my pumping labors ;)

I loved coming home to my boy!
Monday Justin and I carved pumpkins while Hocus Pocus played in the background. Today we are gearing up for the Halloween party later today. I will say that I've always considered myself a summer girl, but this fall has me thinking I may actually prefer fall. The leaves are simply out-of-this-world beautiful, and we've had a decent amount of sunny days to enjoy.

Justin likes to believe Emmett is highly advanced....so he tries to make him do things like crawl and hold his own bottle... ha!

The Storm of the Century

What a fun week! Last Monday I met Justin at work with Emmett - the women he works with wanted to see the baby. It was fun to have a bunch of women oooh and aaahh at my baby boy. We sure love our easy going sweet baby. The ladies commented how he was happy to be passed around - he doesn't have fear of strangers quite yet :) From there we headed up to Silverdale for the afternoon. Justin partnered up with Joe for a racquetball tournament in Bremerton. I guess they didn't do so well - I held an appointment for the first hour of their playing time and by the time I got back they had been eliminated. Bummer! We spent the rest of the day at Justin's parents house and had dinner with them.

Tuesday and Wednesday were beautiful fall days! Blue skies, crisp cool air, and blazing red leaves! I went for a two-mile walk both days with Heather. I love that! It was around Wednesday that we heard about the left-over typhoon that would be hitting the PNW in the weekend, so Thursday I went and bought a few last-minute emergency supplies in case the power went out for an extended period of time. We already have our 72-hour kits, so I just bought additional batteries, more water, and matches. That evening they predicted the winds would start up, but the wind wasn't as bad as they predicted.
Emmett was not liking his Yoda hat
Mom - these are a type of Maple - my friend Kari is finding out the variety for me :)

Morning Walks while there's still sunshine!
Friday it was very rainy, but not windy yet. Saturday was supposed to be "the big one." Social media got the word around quick - I had friends post pictures of Safeway or Walmart and all the water and candles were gone! I myself went to Goodwill and JoAnn's that day to work on Justin's Halloween costume over the weekend ;)

Saturday came and went with nothing to show for it. Imagine that! What most people don't know is a typhoon and hurricane are the same thing - just in different oceans. A cyclone is the universal term for these storms, but I definitely thought we'd have more wind that we did considering the storm had Category 4 hurricane winds. It just dissipated by the time it got to us! It was the storm that cried wolf.

In the meantime, I've finished Justin's Halloween costume. I got to know my sewing machine pretty well in the process. Oh my, I am so excited for this year! Having a baby adds a new dimension to dressing up! Justin is a good sport and goes along with my crazy. I ordered mine and Emmett's costumes since my time is more limited this year. I wonder who can guess Justin's costume based on the supplies?

His hair is getting thicker :)

Emmett is so close to rolling over! He might still have a while before he pulls it off, but he's developing really quickly. He's only 2 1/2 months old! He has been very gassy lately and very uncomfortable about it. The other night Justin and I traded back and forth trying to get the burp out - poor baby!

my boys :)
 lol
I love how cuddly he is
You can tell when Justin has had his turn with baby...yes, those are his pants on his head
