Atomic Days and Birthday Boy

We've officially lived in Idaho for a month now. It's been so fun living on the farm for the summer. Last weekend all my siblings came to Arco for Atomic Days - all but Keaton were able to make the trip. Gabe and Hart came Thursday night. We went for a hike to Fall Creek with their families and my parents Friday morning. The kids and I rode up with my parents - Emmett and Logan had fun dancing to oldies music on the way up and crashed on the way home. Friday afternoon the rest of the family came and we enjoyed the fire "chatter."

Saturday morning, Hart, Jory, Gabe, Mitzi, and I decided to do the Blast Off fun run. Jory and I did the 5K while the other three did the 10K. Brave souls! My lungs can barely take the altitude here but with some training the week before I was able to run faster than I thought and walked away with a 1st place medal for my age range (probably was the only participant for my age range...but hey; gold is gold!). The Atomic Day parade did not disappoint. Emmett gots tons of great candy, and Gabe and Chase drove the Chevelle. All afternoon the cousins played with the neighbors kittens and Gabe's pool while the adults visited. We did potluck dinner that night and presented Dad with his 70th birthday cake. Mitzi also put together a clever candy bar poster for him. I treated myself to popcorn and a Dr. Pepper around the fire that night - Justin and I have been watching what we eat to get ready for our cruise in October. It will be here before we know it! I'm down four pounds and he's down seven pounds. Six more for me and I'll be happy happy happy...but I wonder if I can lose another 11 hmmm we'll see.
Backstory on the running photos...I've been told by friends that I run with a lot of "spring in my step"...Like...I've been told I run like a gazelle multiple times. So when Justin snapped these photos of me at the end of the race I had to laugh - these photos prove I do get quite airborne!

I managed to win one round of lightning. It came down to me vs. Chase. Sweet victory for the sibling rivalry.

Sunday morning a few of us went to church while the rest of the family went home. Chase and Lance stayed for lunch. Emmett loved playing with Hudson and asked for him the rest of the day after he left. They are at a fun age for playing together.

THIS WEEK was the lead up to Emmett's third birthday! Thursday night we decided to take the kids to Craters of the Moon. We walked out to Indian Tunnel and let them explore the cave a bit. We also did Devil's Orchard. Emmett loved spotting chipmunks and we saw a few blue birds. The weather was perfect.

Friday we decided to have a fire in the backyard and roast hotdogs. This is how we roast them when there aren't any conventional hotdog sticks available...

Saturday we had a big day planned to celebrate. In the morning we drove to Bear World. After driving through the loop the kids had tons of fun petting the baby animals and doing the complimentary amusement rides. Logan FREAKED OUT when the ride was over and we had to leave. He wanted to ride all day long! After Bear World we drove to Rigby lake for lunch and swimming. Emmett had a big time in the water. This time he was more ambitious with getting into the deeper water and trusting his life jacket. It was fun swimming with him going all over the place. Logan mostly played on the sideline in the sand. The weather was more cloudy than I would have liked, but we didn't have to worry about sunburns.

After the lake we did our grocery shopping and hit Reed's Dairy on the way home. Both kids got a soft serve ice cream cone and I got a raspberry shake - then the kids just wanted to drink my milkshake. When we got home Mom and Dad had a kitten waiting for Emmett as his surprise gift. After spending a few days in the garage we moved her to the fort. Today Emmett decided to name her Ginger. We hope she'll still be around tomorrow morning!

Justin made him a birthday cake for today. He and I also gave talks in church. We tried to figure out what we were going to do with our kids... when we got to the chapel, Bishop Stewart asked us to sit on the stand with our kids. Uh.....we agreed and he said if our kids needed to leave he had some gals who would take them to the nursery. My thought was - can they take them now? Ha! So Emmett made it to just before the sacrament when he needed to go potty. So that definitely didn't work but thankfully those two girls were able to take both boys to nursery so we could speak.

Justin goes to Vegas for the week tomorrow so I'll be solo in Arco. Some friends already invited us to go to Ross Park on Tuesday so we'll have something fun to look forward to. That's all for now.

Look what came the same day I registerd the two of us for our cruise!
